Israel detains terrorist days after release
Maher Younis, the longest-serving Palestinian prisoner, was detained by Israeli police on Saturday night for inciting terrorism.
Younis, who was released from prison on Jan. 5, 2023, reportedly posted messages on social media encouraging acts of terror.
Younis and his cousin Karim were convicted of the kidnapping and murder of Israeli Defense Forces soldier Avraham Bromberg in 1983. Both were given life sentences, which were commuted to 40 years in 2012.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir reportedly ordered the police to detain Younis for interrogation following the posts. He also called for the death penalty to be used against terrorists. "The repeated incitement of the terrorist Maher Younis is more proof of the death penalty law's great importance against terrorists," he said. "Until we pass this law, we will continue to fight a persistent war in supporting terrorism and inciting terrorism."
