CDC travel advisory for Americans – even fully vaccinated should avoid Israel
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has ranked Israel at its highest alert level and urged Americans to avoid travel there due to a “very high level” of coronavirus infection in the Holy Land.
“Because of the current situation in Israel, even fully-vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants,” the CDC said.
The West Bank and Gaza are included in the alert.
This warning comes despite Israel being one of the most highly vaccinated countries that only recently announced it had emerged from the specter of the coronavirus – only to reinstate restrictions gradually since the end of June.
Of 9.3 million Israelis, more than 5.8 million have received at least one dose of the Pfizer shot, 5.4 million have received two and around 550,000 have taken an additional booster shot.
In any case, foreign tourists are not able to travel independently to Israel unless they are with a fully-vaccinated tour group pre-approved by the Israeli authorities.
