Restaurants remain open as corona committee reverses government decision
Reversing the government's decisions the Knesset coronavirus oversight committee has declared that restaurants can remain open. Seven committee members supported allowing restaurants cooperated as normal while three voted to close them down again. Yifat Shasha-Biton, head of the committee, said restaurants will remain open until the government comes to a reasonable compromise.
“We need guidelines that the public can understand,” Shasha-Biton said. “The public is our key partner in the war against the virus… The committee recognizes the seriousness of its responsibility and believes in the importance of dialogue with the government.”
The government was pushing for outdoor seating only with up to 50 patrons at a time while the committee was in favor of indoor seating, as well at a lower occupancy of 25 to 35 percent. The government would not budge.
Restaurants owners and workers are expected to demonstrate outside the prime minister's residence on Tuesday.
