The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are preparing for an extended deployment of troops in harsh winter conditions throughout Syria and Lebanon. The Hermon Mountain range, on the border between Israel and Syria, is expected to receive snowfall soon as the winter months approach.

Israeli troops will be provided with insulated shelters, winter gear, and other essential equipment as the IDF examines its own past campaigns and those of other militaries operating in enemy territory under harsh winter conditions.

An IDF source revealed that the military is also preparing for extreme scenarios, including snowstorms.

“We have established protocols for extreme scenarios, which we’ve encountered during past winters at Hermon outposts,” the IDF source said

“But this situation is different – this time, we’re operating in enemy territory under the looming threat of a severe winter. We’ve even studied our own history from the early 1970s, when IDF troops were stationed in these areas. The goal is to ensure that soldiers remain comfortable, safe, and supplied with hot food, even in the harshest conditions. We are already delivering cooked meals to the most remote outposts in Syria and Lebanon,” the source added.

Atal, the Israeli Ministry of Defense Procurement Directorate, stressed that the IDF is focusing on strategic long-term planning.

“We’re not investing in expensive equipment for just a few weeks or a month. Every decision is being managed wisely, with long-term planning in mind,” an Atal official said.

“Some of the procurement has been expedited through rapid tenders and international orders, while other supplies have been drawn from emergency reserves.”
