Iran is arranging talks between the Russian government and the Houthi rebels in Yemen, with Russia considering sending anti-ship missiles to support the Houthis, according to a Reuters report.

“Seven sources said that Russia has yet to decide to transfer the Yakhont missiles – also known as P-800 Oniks - which experts said would allow the militant group to more accurately strike commercial vessels in the Red Sea and increase the threat to the U.S. and European warships defending them,” Reuters reported.

Houthi and Russian officials reportedly met at least twice in Tehran this year, and Iran intends to arrange more talks in the near future.

The Houthis, who have long received support from the Iranian government, have conducted numerous attacks against American and Israeli ships.

Since Oct. 7, the Houthi rebels have also launched several attacks directly into Israel.

Earlier this month, the Houthis fired a hypersonic ballistic missile into central Israel.

In July, a Houthi drone killed a man and injured several others in Tel Aviv.

The Houthis are a Shia Islamist organization designated as a terrorist group by the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and others. The terror group currently controls about 25% of Yemeni territory.

The terror group’s slogan is “Allah is the Greatest, Death to America, Death to Israel, A Curse Upon the Jews, Victory to Islam.”

In July, The Wall Street Journal, citing “U.S. intelligence agencies,” reported that Russia was considering arming the Yemenite terror group, however, the report did not suggest the talks were being facilitated by the Iranian regime.
