Trump seems set to end Jew-hatred at United Nations

Author's note: The cartoon is by Yaakov Kirschen aka "Dry Bones"- one of Israel's foremost political and social commentators – whose cartoons have graced the columns of Israeli and international media publications for decades.

President Trump’s decision to withdraw Elise Stefanik’s appointment as Ambassador to the United Nations will ensure Republicans retain control of the Congress – but sinks Stefanik’s commitment to end Jew-hatred at the United Nations (UN).

Trump announced his reasons on Truth Social:

Stefanik was one of Trump’s first nominations announced on 11 November 2024 after Trump’s election triumph on 5 November.

Stefanik made her intentions clear on 19 November:

“We know that the UN is a den of antisemitism ... I will stand up for President Trump’s America First, peace through strength policies and bring moral truth and crystal clear moral clarity at the United Nations on Day One,”

The UN has been the epicentre of global Jew-hatred ever since 72 of the 139 member states adopted Resolution 3379 on 10 November 1975 labelling Zionism as racism – whilst another 32 abstained.

On 16 December 1991 - 25 of the 149 member states voted against rescinding Resolution 3379: Afghanistan, Nigeria, Brunei, Bangladesh, Cuba, North Korea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Mali, Mauritania, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Yemen – whilst another 13 abstained.

Jew-hatred was taken to a new level on 23 December 2016 when Security Council Resolution 2334 was adopted by a vote of 14–0.  Four members with veto power - China, France, Russia, and the United Kingdom - voted for the resolution - while the United States abstained. The other 10 Security Council members supporting the Resolution were Angola, Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Senegal, Spain, Ukraine, Uruguay and Venezuela

Resolution 2334 falsely claims:

“that the establishment by Israel of settlements in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law and a major obstacle to the achievement of the two-State solution and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace”

Israel’s legal right to act at it had since 1967 was grounded in articles 6 and 25 of the 1922 League of Nations Mandate for Palestine - preserved and permanently enshrined in article 80 of the United Nations Charter. Disgracefully – it was the Security Council that was acting in flagrant violation of international law in breaching Article 80 of the UN Charter.

Every UN resolution purporting to deny the Jewish people’s vested legal right to reconstitute the Jewish National Home in any part of former Palestine located west of the Jordan River - is not worth the paper it is written on.

That includes General Assembly Resolution A/ES-10/L.31/Rev.1 adopted 124-14 with 43 abstentions on 13 September 2024 welcoming:

“the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice of 19 July 2024 on the legal consequences arising from Israel’s policies and practices in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and from the illegality of Israel’s continued presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory;”

It’s all smoke and mirrors.

The advisory opinion has no binding force.

The stench of Jew-hatred still runs deep at the UN.

American Charge D’Affaires at the UN – Dorothy Shea - gave the clearest indication yet that Trump was readying to get rid of Resolution 2334 when stating on 21 March at a briefing session of the Security Council:

“The stated purpose of this meeting is to report on the implementation of Resolution 2334, the passage of which was a mistake and whose ongoing discussion is a distraction from the real threats to international peace and security.

Indeed, it is an impediment to this Council’s work to address them.”

Rescinding Resolution 2334 — as Resolution 3379 was rescinded – will help clean out the UN stables of endemic Jew-hatred - ensuring Elise Stefanik’s noble objective is achieved.
