Hungary has ‘best possible’ relationship with Israel under Netanyahu, says Hungarian foreign minister
Budapest is reportedly ready to deepen ties with Israel in all areas
In an interview with i24NEWS, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said Hungary had been “crossing fingers” during the last Israeli election that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would return to lead the country, explaining that bilateral relations were always best under Netanyahu.
“If we raise the question to ourselves under whose leadership were the relations between Israel and Hungary flourishing and improving, then it’s obvious that under the leadership of Prime Minister Netanyahu we had the best possible relationship with Israel,” Szijjártó said.
The Hungarian minister made a point of mentioning that Budapest is ready to deepen ties with Israel in all areas.
“We built partnerships and bilateral cooperation in the field of economy, trade, culture, science in a very beneficial manner for both sides. We hope to further deepen the cooperation,” Szijjártó said.
He also said he thinks Israel is being singled out for unfair treatment by the nations of the world and said he did not concur with the international chorus of critics against Israel’s judicial overhaul.
“We don’t like that very unfair approach which is being reflected in international organizations against Israel. We never vote in favor of those biased resolutions which are very much anti-Israel in international organizations,” Szijjártó said.
The foreign minister added that the Hungarian government is looking forward to a future visit by the Israeli prime minister.
“We are excited about the new term of Prime Minister Netanyahu. We are excited he can pay another visit to Hungary,” Szijjártó said.
