‘Wonder Woman’ actress Gal Gadot shares plight of Israeli hostages, including Liri Albag, to 108 million followers
Israeli actress Gal Gadot, internationally recognized for her portrayal of “Wonder Woman” in the 2017 blockbuster film, used her platform on Sunday to spotlight the plight of Israeli hostage Liri Albag.
"This is Liri, only 19 years old. She was abducted by Hamas on October 7th," Gadot wrote to her 108 million followers on Instagram.
"Yesterday, we received a sign of life from Liri – a sign that sharpened the pain that Liri, along with 99 other hostages, has been held captive in Hamas tunnels for over 450 days."
"While I prepare for a festive and joyous evening, my heart is heavy, and my soul aches knowing the hostages are still there," she continued, referring to her upcoming participation at the Golden Globes Awards 2025 on Sunday night.
"Every day that passes without an agreement puts their lives in greater danger," the celebrity warned. "We all deserve to see them return, alive. Bring them home now," Gadot urged.
Liri Albag was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7, 2023, while she was serving at an Israeli military base, Nahal Oz, close to the Gaza border.
On Saturday, the Hamas terrorist organization released a propaganda video showing Albag pleading for her life.
“I’m only 19 years old. I have my entire life in front of me, but now my entire life has been put on pause,” Albag said.
Her family in Israel reacted strongly to the video clip.
“This is not the same daughter and sister we know. She is in a bad state – her difficult mental state is evident. We saw our heroine Liri survive and beg for her life. She is several tens of kilometers from us and for 456 days we have not been able to bring her home,” they said.
“We appeal to the Prime Minister and the decision makers: it's time for you to make the decisions as if your children were there! Liri is alive and must come back alive! It depends only on you! You must not miss the present opportunity to return them. All of them.”
Hamas’ propaganda videos featuring Israeli hostages aim to increase political pressure on the Israeli government to meet the organization’s various demands. The Albag family has called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government to take swift action to secure the return of their kidnapped daughter and the other hostages.
Gadot has become a prominent global advocate for Israel and the Jewish people.
In September, Gadot participated in an online event with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, emphasizing the importance of Jewish unity. During the event, she spoke about the rising antisemitism and hatred directed toward Israel.
"Fifteen years ago, being Israeli was something people admired; they were fascinated by Israel's strong women. While that's not entirely lost, the topic is now fraught and the discourse is different. I often find myself having uncomfortable conversations with people who have opinions about what's happening, trying to present them with the full picture,” Gadot told viewers.
Despite all the challenges, Gadot stressed that the Jewish people have the “power to unite and spread light.”
"I believe we have the power to unite and spread light, even when it's uncomfortable. We need to articulate the unpleasant truths because that's what it is – we must act to bring the hostages back; it's unthinkable they are still there. And we will overcome because that's the only way forward," Gadot stated.
