US Senate majority leader Schumer stresses his Jewish background during solidarity visit to Israel
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer recalled his Jewish family background during a bipartisan solidarity visit to the Jewish state on Monday following the Hamas massacre of 1,300 Israeli and foreign civilians and soldiers.
Schumer and a delegation of senior U.S. officials met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog.
Schumer, the longest-serving senator from New York, recalled that Nazis had murdered 35 of his Jewish relatives during the Holocaust, including his Ukrainian-born great-grandmother.
“I had an obligation to be here,” Schumer told his Israeli hosts. “You are not alone,” he added.
“There are no words for the horror that happened last Saturday (Oct. 7). It shook me to my core, I think about it all the time,” Schumer said.
Like other pundits, Schumer noted that the unprecedented Hamas terror assault was the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.
“It was the most Jews killed in a single day since the Holocaust.”
The Senate majority leader stressed the brutality of the Hamas massacre against Israeli civilians, including women and children.
“The viciousness of this attack, it was just wrenching. Young women raped and murdered side by side, babies throats slit in front of their parents and then they shoot the parents,” Schumer said.
Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) who accompanied Schumer to Israel, presented herself as the “only Jewish woman in the Senate, the only Jewish mother in the Senate. A former synagogue president, and a steadfast supporter of Israel,” Rosen stated.
She stressed the importance of the Jewish state to Jews all over the world.
“Israel lives in the hearts of all Jewish people,” Rosen said, adding that “our hearts have been shattered.”
Following strong international condemnations of the Hamas massacre of Israeli civilians, the fundamentalist Islamist organization has tried to reduce the negative public relations impact.
During a recent interview with Sky News, Hamas Head of Political and International Relations Dr. Basem Naim denied the Hamas terror organization had committed the massacre of over 1,000 Israeli civilians.
“We have not killed any civilians,” Naim brazenly lied to Sky News, despite massive evidence of the Hamas atrocities in the southern Israeli border communities, some nearly completely destroyed and burned to the ground.
During a CNN interview on Sunday, Herzog revealed more evidence of the Hamas massacre of Israeli civilians and foreigners.
The Israeli president showed a copy of “The Warrior’s Guide - Jihad Version,” a Hamas instruction manual that the terror organization distributed to its members prior to the invasion and attack.
“This was found on the body of one of the terrorists, this booklet is an instruction guide, how to go into a civilian premises, into a kibbutz, a city, a moshav, how to break in,” Herzog said.
The Israeli president stressed that the manual instructed and encouraged Hamas terrorists to commit ISIS-level atrocities towards women and children.
“And first thing what do you do when you find the citizens? You torture them. This is the booklet – it says exactly how to torture them, how to abduct them, how to kidnap them,” Herzog told the CNN viewers.
