US congressmen introduce bill to enforce sanctions against third-largest terror group in Gaza

Several U.S. congressmen have reintroduced a bill to officially enforce sanctions against the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC).
Operating primarily in Gaza, the PRC was involved in the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack against Israel.
After Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the PRC is believed to be Gaza’s third-largest terrorist organization.
“Under the Accountability for Terrorist Perpetrators of October 7th Act, the PRC would be designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) organization,” a press release from Democratic Congressman Brad Sherman said of the bipartisan legislation. “This designation would create criminal and civil penalties for anyone willfully providing support to the PRC, including up to 20 years in prison, civil fines, and property forfeitures.”
The press release note that “despite multiple State Department reports identifying terror attacks committed by the Popular Resistance Committees, the group has never faced U.S. sanctions,” and says the bill “would finally hold the PRC accountable for its long history of heinous terror attacks.”
Several Republican and Democrat congressmen commented on the legislation.
Democrat Congressman Brad Sherman, who introduced the legislation, stated that “every day that we fail to sanction the terrorist Popular Resistance Committees… is another day that we fail to secure justice for their victims.”
“The Popular Resistance Committees have long been a dangerous and violent force in Gaza, committing heinous acts of terrorism and destabilizing the region,” said Republican Congressman Mike Lawler. “It is long overdue that we take decisive action to hold them accountable.”
