Trump nominated again for Nobel prize
Estonian MEP cites Trump's work on Abraham Accords; Kushner, Berkowitz, Friedman and Dermer also nominated
According to Estonian news reports, Jaak Madison - a member of European Parliament - has nominated former U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
This is the second time Trump has been nominated for the prize.
Citing Trump's work on the Abraham Accords, the historic peace deal which normalized relations between Israel and several Muslim nations galvanizing new allies in the Middle East, Madison made the nomination just hours before the deadline at midnight on Jan. 31 and he said he wasn't the only one who did.
"In the last 30 years, Donald Trump is the first president of the United States, who during his tenure, has not started a war. Additionally, he signed several peace agreements in the Middle East which have helped provide stability in the region and peace," Madison wrote on social media.
Trump was nominated last year also for the Abraham Accords by Norwegian Parliament member Christian Tybring-Gjedde.
“For his merit, I think he has done more trying to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees,” Tybring-Gjedde said at the time.
Last week, Jared Kushner - Trump’s son-in-law and former presidential advisor - and his deputy, Avi Berkowitz, as well as former U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman and former Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer were nominated for the same prize.
The Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies called Kushner the "unsung hero of the Middle East" for his work in "ushering in the peace agreements between Israel and the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan, and recently mediated an end to the three-year conflict between Saudi Arabia and Qatar."
Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz nominated Kushner and Berkowitz.
Also nominated were Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, climate activist Greta Thunberg and the World Health Organization (WHO).
The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced in the fall.
