Swift IDF response after Gaza rocket attack in Israel
The Israel Defense Forces wasted no time responding to Wednesday evening’s rocket attack from Gaza, swiftly striking a Gaza weapons production and storage site in retaliation.
The incoming rocket alerted Israelis in several areas to take cover, including the cities of Sderot, Ibim and Nir Am.
“Any shooting at the State of Israel or any attempt to harm the lives of the residents of the south will be met with the strength of the IDF,” said Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Sderot residents heard a large explosion following the rocket-warning siren, confirming that the Iron Dome system had intercepted the rocket. The municipality confirmed that the incoming attack did not result in any direct hits.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group took responsibility for the attack, stating that it was in retaliation for “systematic” aggression against Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, specifically referring to female prisoners. One female prisoner recently complained about how she was mistreated.
The prison services had reportedly administered punitive punishment to prisoners after they rioted and tried to burn a prison cell.
