Summer traffic at Israel's Ben-Gurion Airport taking off despite ongoing war
Israel Airports Authority is expecting 3.7 million passengers to travel through Ben-Gurion International Airport throughout the summer months.
According to the Airports Authority, Sundays and Thursdays will be particularly busy, seeing more than 60,000 passengers coming through the airport outside of Tel Aviv.
Many airlines stopped flying to Israel in the wake of Oct. 7, with some tentatively scheduling flights only to cancel them later. Hamas had been firing barrages of rockets into Tel Aviv and the surrounding area, making air travel perilous.
Israel, by and large, has defeated the terror group’s capability to shoot long-range missiles at Israel, and a surprising number of people have been coming to visit and support Israel even during the war.
Many Israelis travel overseas for the summer and this year will be no exception. There is an expected 400 flights departing daily from Israel to popular holiday destinations such as Greece, Cyprus, Italy, the United States and the United Arab Emirates, as reported in Ynet News.
Aug 15, 22, and 29 are expected to be peak travel days at Ben-Gurion, with more than 72,500 passengers passing through Israel’s main airport hub.
