[VIDEO] A Holocaust survivor, Gershon Shevach, tells the story of his family's escape from the Nazis to Israel to build and rebuild
Israeli architect tells ALL ISRAEL NEWS that we came to this reborn country to build it and to rebuild ourselves
After being released from a refugee camp in Switzerland, Gershon Shevach came to Israel with his family at the age of 3 on an illegal immigration ship in 1945.
“We came to this reborn country to build it and to rebuild ourselves,” Shevach tells us from his home in a quiet village outside of Jerusalem.
Shevach, born in the Swiss city of Lausanne, shares his fascinating story, including his parent’s inspiring legacy and their escape from the Nazi threat during World War II before making their way to the Jewish homeland.
Highly influenced by his father’s religious and Zionist beliefs in the new Jewish state, Shevach became an architect and quite literally made it his mission to embody the "building" of Israel through his work. Shevach has designed and built more than 1,000 structures for the State of Israel and Israel’s Ministry of Defense, which can be found across the nation.
