Shooting attack in Beersheva: One killed, several injured, one in critical condition
A deadly terror attack unfolded on Sunday afternoon at the central bus station in the southern Israeli city of Beersheva, resulting in the death of a young woman and leaving 12 others wounded. The incident occurred in multiple locations near the station, including a McDonald's restaurant and a nearby café.
The attacker was identified as Mohammed Said al-Uqbi, a 29-year-old Israeli Bedouin citizen from the al-Uqbi tribe in the Negev. Al-Uqbi, who had a criminal record, was shot and killed by security forces and armed civilians at the scene.
Notably, he was a relative of the terrorist who attacked the same Beersheva central bus station in October 2015, which resulted in the death of an IDF soldier and left several others wounded.
Following medical assessments at the scene, Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency services announced that a young woman, approximately 25 years old, had been killed. Ten injured individuals were evacuated to Soroka Medical Center, suffering from injuries of varying severity.
Among them, one person is in moderate to severe condition, four are in moderate condition with gunshot wounds, and five were lightly injured. Additionally, three people were treated at the scene for anxiety following the terror attack.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the 2:27 p.m. alert. Police spokesman, Arie Doron, initially urged the public to avoid the central bus station area due to concerns about additional terrorists, however, the area has since been secured. The investigation is ongoing.
