Bennett speaks with Greek prime minister about Israeli assistance in fighting wildfires raging in Greece
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett spoke with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Aug. 9 to inform him that he had approved the departure of two firefighting planes to assist in extinguishing the wildfires in Greece. An Air Force transport plane will also depart with equipment for the crews and for the 15 Israeli firefighters who left for the fires in Greece last Friday.
Bennett offered his support to Mitsotakis and said the Israeli government would continue to provide all possible assistance in dealing with the huge wildfires and to stand by the Greek people in any way possible. Bennett added that all Israelis wished for quieter and better days in Greece.
The assistance, valued at nearly $1.1 million (NIS 3.5 million), was formulated in cooperation between the Prime Minister's Office and the Finance, Defense, Foreign and Public Security ministries.
Mitsotakis thanked Bennett for his cooperation and willingness to assist in resolving the crisis. The two agreed to be in regular contact and to continue the cooperation between the two countries.
