New COVID restrictions take effect today in Israel, including green passports for children 3 to 11
As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, the government has implemented new restrictions to curb the spread of the virus. Most notably, the Green Badge system – requiring proof of vaccination or recovery from COVID – has been expanded to include children between 3 and 11 years old.
Previously the Green Badge only applied to Israelis 12 years old and up.
Since children are not yet eligible to receive the COVID vaccine, they must show a negative COVID test to enter restaurants, hotels, museums and other venues that require a green passport. Rapid test centers are being set up around Israel to accommodate this new requirement. These tests will be given free for children, but those 12 and older who have not been vaccinated must now pay out of pocket.
Additional restrictions include a cap on private meetings of 100 people outdoors and 50 people indoors. However, at wedding or event halls, the cap is 500 people outdoors and 400 people indoors.
