Miracles in the Sinai: How one of the first Jewish followers of Jesus in Israel survived ferocious battle in 1973 Yom Kippur War

Aryeh Bar David and his family were among the first Jewish believers in Jesus in Israel. He was only a one-year-old child when the nation was prophetically reborn in May 1948. Bar David fought for the Jewish state’s survival in five different Israeli-Arab wars, both as a soldier and commander in the ranks of the IDF.

In Part One of his conversation with ALL ISRAEL NEWS Editor-in-Chief Joel Rosenberg about the Yom Kippur War, Bar David began to tell the story of how, as a Messianic commander, he led Jewish troops into that battle in 1973. On the eve of the war, Bar David had a unique opportunity to share his belief in Jesus as the son of God, at the request of one of his soldiers.

In Part Two, which aired this week on THE ROSENBERG REPORT on TBN, Bar David recalled the moment his first commander was killed in battle in the Sinai Desert, marking the point when he took command.

In the middle of the night, he was given an order to retreat his troops to a specific point.

“I’m turning to this very high officer and telling him, ‘Look, I have no idea where we are exactly,’” Bar David shared with Rosenberg. “It's black. But more than this – there were three tanks that got [hit by] RPGs and destroyed. So, all is filled with fire and smoke. You don't see any star to rely on.”

Egyptian bombs were exploding all around them.

Bar David turned around to his soldiers with confidence and told them to follow him.

He had one mission in mind: To get them out to safety.

“If I tell you run, you run. If I tell you fall down, you fall down,” he instructed the soldiers.

Even though it was impossible for him to navigate, Bar David knew – he just knew – that God would show him exactly where to go.

But how could he share his confidence with injured Jewish troops in a battle zone?

“If you talk like this to the army people, they think you are ‘cuckoo’ [have gone crazy],” he said.

Suddenly, the young commander saw a light in the distance. It was not a tank projector or anything like that.

“Officers asked me about this light. I said I never saw a light like this before,” he recounted.

It was the brightest light he’d ever seen. And just like the light that the Apostle Paul saw on the road to Damascus, he said, the light began speaking to him.

Guided by the Holy Spirit, Bar David shouted to his soldiers: “Run to the light!”

Bullets and bombs exploded all around them. They had to get out.

“I just follow the light. And suddenly, as it appeared… suddenly it vanished… The moment it vanished, at least I understood that we are very close now to our unit,” Bar David said. “I prayed, Lord, just give me the wisdom to avoid [another confrontation with Egyptian forces].”

His prayer was answered.

Bar David said it was the greatest experience of his life.

“When you pass something like this, you understand your life doesn't belong to you. It belongs to Him,” he told Rosenberg.

“You understand? And that's why I pray. I pray also for my grandchildren, for them. I know it’s extraordinary that God will show to you Himself as what He showed to me. The Light. Because you pass [through] something like this, all life is changed.”
