Meet Israel's new education minister, Yoav Kisch
Israel’s new education minister is 54-year-old Yoav Kisch, the son of Lt.-Col. Michael Kisch, who fought in the Yom Kippur War, and grandson of Frederick Kisch, the highest-ranking Jew to have ever served in the British Army.
Kisch served as a combat pilot in the Israeli Air Force, obtaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. After his military service, he worked in a number of start-up companies representing various sectors and flew as a commercial pilot with EL AL Israel Airlines before entering politics.
He has been a member of the Likud party for over 15 years but was only elected to the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, in 2015, when he surrendered his British citizenship to serve as minister. He's been representing Likud in the Knesset ever since.
In 2016, Kisch was appointed chair of the House Committee. He has also served as deputy health minister, as well as a member of committeesand lobbies throughout his tenure in parliament.
Kisch made headlines earlier this month when he announced the cancellation of his predecessor's reforms to high school matriculation exams in the social sciences and humanities.
Kisch, his wife Hagit and their three children live in the city of Ramat Gan, located in central Israel.
