Jewish Americans overwhelmingly vote Democrat, aren’t mentioned by Trump in victory speech
As President-elect Donald J. Trump thanked several groups for their increased support this election, he did not mention Jewish Americans, who, as a group, appeared to have maintained their usual pattern of overwhelmingly voting Democrat at the national level.
During his victory speech, Trump thanked “African American, Hispanic American, Asian American, Arab American, [and] Muslim American” voters, among whom the Republican Party made significant gains this election.
“We had everybody,” Trump said. “And it was beautiful. It was a historic realignment, uniting citizens of all backgrounds around a common core of common sense.”
While the groups Trump mentioned still voted overwhelmingly Democrat – and some more so than Jewish Americans – there was a notable shift of support away from the Democrats and towards Trump.
Such a shift did not apparently occur among Jewish Americans.
One exit poll, conducted by the National Election Pool, indicated a shift in the opposite direction, saying that 79% of Jewish Americans voted for Kamala Harris.
The Times of Israel noted that, if true, this would represent “the lowest proportion of Jewish votes for a Republican presidential candidate in 24 years.”
CNN’s exit polling indicated that 78% of American Jews voted for Harris.
Fox News’ exit polling, however, said that only 67% voted for Harris.
Additionally, according to Fox News polling, there was a notable shift toward Trump, specifically among Jewish New Yorkers, 46% of whom voted for Trump.
The New York Post noted that this poll represents a “50% boost” for Trump among Jewish New Yorkers, as only 30% voted for Trump in 2020.
Several times during his campaign, Trump mentioned the lack of support for the MAGA movement among Jewish Americans.
At an Israeli-American Council summit in Washington, D.C., Trump said that the majority of Jews do not support him “because of the Democrats hold or curse on you. You can’t let this happen.”
He went on to argue that Jewish support for his presidency should be much higher due to his unwavering support for Israel.
Though only about 2.4% of Americans are Jewish, the Jerusalem Post reported in 2018 that “50% of funds received by the Democratic Party and 25% to the Republican Party” came from Jewish donors.
The report quoted American history professor Gil Troy, who said that “American Jews are more pro-choice than pro-Israel when voting.”
As ALL ISRAEL NEWS has previously reported, the vast majority of Jewish Americans support abortion, which was one of the key issues highlighted by Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.
The majority of Orthodox Jews, on the other hand – which represent only about 9% of the American Jewish population – support Trump.
