Israeli, UAE and Moroccan officials meet to plan next Negev Summit for the spring
Senior Israeli officials traveled to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, to prepare for the next meeting of the Arab-Israeli Negev Summit, scheduled for the spring.
The inaugural summit, last year, was held in Israel at Kibbutz Sde Boker in the Negev desert, with the foreign ministers of Israel, the UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco and the United States in attendance. A follow-up session was held in October by Zoom.
These sessions are intended to implement the principles established in the 2020 Abraham Accords normalization agreement, through joint initiatives and projects in areas as diverse as regional security, energy, tourism, education and water security.
U.S. State Department Spokesperson Ned Price referred to the Negev Summit in his press briefing this Friday, saying the forum could benefit Palestinians and assist efforts to resolve the drawn-out Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Price said the working groups “seek to advance coordination initiatives among the founding members of the forum on regional integration, cooperation and development for the benefit of the peoples of the region, including, of course, initiatives that would strengthen the Palestinian economy and improve the quality of life of the Palestinian people.”
“The Negev Forum process is about building bridges and creating opportunities,” Price said.
