Israeli soldier killed, three injured in accidental grenade explosion
In what appears to have been a breach of protocol, a live grenade was brought inside army housing for trainees in the Jordan Valley on Saturday, resulting in an accidental detonation which left one soldier dead and three others wounded.
Although the Israel Defense Forces has not yet released official details, resuscitation efforts reportedly failed to revive the dead soldier. Another soldier is listed in serious condition, while the other two have been hospitalized with minor injuries.
Military police have begun an investigation, but it appears the soldier found a grenade in a firing zone area, placed it in his bag and carried it into the living quarters, an act which is strictly forbidden. The grenade may have self-detonated, resulting in the carnage.
