Israeli Air Force chief visits Morocco to strengthen bilateral ties
Israeli Air Force chief, General Tomer Bar, travelled to Morocco on Tuesday in an effort to strengthen cooperation with the Royal Moroccan Air Force.
During his first official visit to the strategically important North African country, Bar met with Moroccan Air Force chief, General El Abd Bohamid. The Israeli commander and his delegation is scheduled to visit Moroccan Air Force bases along with his delegation, including the head of the Israeli Air Force training department and other senior Israeli Air Force officials.
In a statement, the Royal Moroccan force confirmed that Morocco and Israel "agreed to further strengthen cooperation and expand it to other areas, including in intelligence, air defense, and electronic warfare."
Morocco and Israel have a long history of close covert security and intelligence ties. In December 2020, Morocco formalized its ties with the Jewish state when it signed the historic Arab-Israeli Abraham Accords. In November 2021, Morocco and Israel signed a historic defense agreement that paved the way for joint military exercises and intelligence sharing.
The Israeli Air Force is universally regarded as one of the world’s most capable and experienced air powers.
Morocco has expressed a strong interest in deepening its military cooperation with Israel, mainly due to its tense relations with neighboring Algeria. The Algerians are seriously concerned that Morocco’s growing military cooperation with the Jewish state could tilt the military power balance in Morocco’s favor.
