Israel registers more than 5,000 new COVID infections on Monday

Israel registered 5,140 new COVID-19 cases on Monday – the highest daily numbers since February – as Health Ministry officials considered imposing even more restrictions to slow the spread of the virus. (The number reported was before the day closed with more than 6,000 infections.)
The Health Ministry is considering limiting gatherings to 50 people indoors and 100 at outdoor events. This is in addition to the green passport rules implemented on Sunday which bar unvaccinated people from events unless they have a negative COVID test taken within 24 hours.
Officials still have not ruled out a lockdown for the September holidays.
The number of people hospitalized in serious condition has jumped to 373 and another 17 deaths were recorded Monday.
