Israel participates in Ukraine summit to develop 'comprehensive plan for physical, psychological rehabilitation' for Ukrainian population
A two-day conference held in Lviv, Ukraine last week brought together doctors, medical technology professionals, entrepreneurs and government officials from both Israel and Ukraine.
The aim of the summit was “to develop a comprehensive plan of physical and psychological rehabilitation of the Ukrainian population,” according to the Israeli Embassy in Kyiv, which organized the event, along with the Health, Welfare, and Economy ministries and the Ukrainian Embassy in Israel.
The opening session included video addresses by Israel’s First Lady Michal Herzog and Foreign Ministry Dir-Gen. Ronen Levy.
Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, State Military Chief Maksym Kozytskyy and Yuriy Podolian, deputy chief of the Ukrainian armed forces medical corps were all in attendance.
Physicians from Israel’s health sector also participated, including Sheba Medical Center, Ichilov Hospital and Clalit Health Services
Israel has already treated dozens of wounded Ukrainian soldiers since September when they began arriving in Israel.
More than 200 Ukrainian professionals have been attending trauma programs in Israel and thousands more have joined online sessions.
According to U.S. officials, some 130,000 Ukrainian troops have been wounded since Russia invaded the war-torn in February 2022. The United Nations estimates that at least 15,117 civilians have been wounded in the war.
Israel has so far mainly provided Ukraine with non-military assistance, having donated four armored ambulances and hundreds of tons of humanitarian equipment, in addition to providing funds and setting up a field hospital.
The Jewish state has so far refused to send Ukraine military aid, such as weapons or missile defense to Ukraine in order to avoid a conflict-of-interest with Russia over Syria.
Israel strikes against Iranian targets in Syria, where Russia controls large parts of the airspace, are typically met without resistance.
