Israel launches repatriation flights, ferries for stranded citizens abroad
In response to the ongoing security situation and widespread flight cancellations, Israeli Transportation Minister Miri Regev has unveiled a new plan to repatriate Israelis stranded abroad.
Beginning on Tuesday, repatriation flights and maritime shuttles will be implemented to assist those affected in returning to Israel via Greece and Cyprus.
"Flights from Athens and Cyprus to Israel will operate around the clock. Additionally, maritime shuttles from Greece will be available to facilitate the return of stranded Israelis," stated Regev at a press briefing at Ben Gurion International Airport on Sunday.
Regarding the maritime shuttles, she announced: "The shuttles are based on ferries. We have finalized agreements with a company in Cyprus for these shuttles and are completing security arrangements with the Navy. More details will be provided soon."
"Currently, we have the capacity to return those who wish through Israeli and foreign airlines. If we see a larger number of Israelis wanting to return or in case of escalation, we might activate the shuttles earlier," she added.
The transportation minister noted that approximately 3,000 Israelis have expressed their desire to return to Israel so far. She emphasized the unique nature of the current situation and advised those affected to use their judgment and be prepared for potential delays.
