IDF shoots down Hezbollah drones, thwarts missile squads in another day of battle in north
Israel strikes Hezbollah targets in south Lebanon in response
In another day of low-intensity fighting along Israel’s border with Lebanon, the IDF was busy repelling different kinds of attacks by Hezbollah terror forces.
The Lebanese terrorist organization has gradually increased its attacks on Israeli military positions and civilian communities since the start of Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, to the point that most of the Israeli residents in towns close to the border have been evacuated.
The day began with Israeli airstrikes early in the morning against a Hezbollah compound and an observation post in response to attacks against Israel the day before. The Israeli Air Force (IAF) also successfully thwarted a terror cell near the Israeli border.
After a quiet morning, shortly after midday, the IAF shot down a suspicious aircraft that crossed into Israel from Lebanon.
A few hours later, the Iron Dome aerial defense system shot down a drone over the Mediterranean Sea near Israel's northern city of Acre (Akko), after it infiltrated from Lebanon.
Siren alarms in Ein Hamifratz and Kfar Masaryk were activated because of possible shrapnel from the Iron Dome missile interception and not because of a concrete threat to the residents, according to the Times of Israel.
During the afternoon, IDF drones thwarted three Hezbollah cells in southern Lebanon.
One terror cell attempted to shoot rockets at Israel near Mount Dov and was eliminated, while a few hours later, two different cells attempted to shoot anti-tank missiles at Israeli targets near Mount Dov and the village of Mattat. Those cells were eliminated, as well.
In the evening, a house in Kiryat Shmona was hit by a mortar grenade fired from near Misgav Am, setting off sirens and lightly wounding two residents. The IDF said it returned fire at the source of the attack.
The Israeli army eliminated more than 20 Hezbollah cells in southern Lebanon since the start of the war, IDF Spokesman Brig.-Gen. Daniel Hagari said on Monday.
On Sunday alone, he said, the IDF struck nine Hezbollah cells as they prepared to attack Israel.
