UAE Foreign Minister welcomes Israeli National Security Advisor, Jared Kushner to Abu Dhabi
As peace talks commence in UAE capital, Kushner urges Palestinians not to be "stuck in the past."
The joint American-Israeli delegation arrived in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, on Monday afternoon.
UAE Foreign Minster Anwar Gargash welcomed the delegation, led by Israeli National Security Advisor Meir Ben-Shabbat and Jared Kushner, who serves as senior advisor to President Trump and chief architect of the White House's Middle East peace strategy.
Reuters reported that Kushner urged Palestinians not be “stuck in the past.”
“They have to come to the table," Kushner told reporters. "Peace will be ready for them, an opportunity will be ready for them as soon as they are ready to embrace it."
The U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi immediately began Tweeting out photos of the historic arrival of El Al flight 971, as well of the first of two days worth of planned meetings.
The teams will be hammering out the specifics of the first Arab-Israeli peace deal in more than 25 years.
They are also expected to work on the details of a formal signing ceremony for the peace agreement at the White House in September. No date has been made publicly known yet for the ceremony.
