Hezbollah continues attacks along Israeli border as IDF retaliates with tanks, artillery fire
A number of Israelis were wounded in the attacks
After a relatively quiet day on the northern border, the Lebanese-based terror organization Hezbollah resumed its provocations and attacks against Israel on Tuesday.
On Tuesday morning, the Israeli Air Force thwarted an infiltration attempt by a Hezbollah terror cell into northern Israel, said IDF Spokesman Brig.-Gen. Daniel Hagari.
Israel Defense Forces killed four terrorists in the process.
Throughout the day, Hezbollah continued to fire anti-tank missiles at IDF positions and Israeli towns along the northern border at irregular intervals.
The IDF responded to each launch with tank and artillery fire aimed at Hezbollah military targets in southern Lebanon.
An anti-tank missile was launched toward the northern Israeli town of Metula before noon.
Two IDF soldiers were moderately and lightly injured by the missile, while an Israeli civilian was also lightly injured.
Early on Tuesday afternoon, Hezbollah fired another anti-tank missile at an army post near Margaliot, while also attacking several points on the border fence with rifle fire.
Gunmen from Lebanon have destroyed multiple cameras and other IDF security equipment on the border with rifle fire in recent days.
A short time later, two additional anti-tank missiles were fired near Kibbutz Yiftah, and a small arms fire was again directed at several IDF posts on the Lebanese border.
Another anti-tank missile was fired near Moshav Zar'it.
Toward the evening, alarm sirens sounded in the town of Kiryat Shmona and its environs. The IDF said that two rockets were fired into Israel, one of which was intercepted while the other fell in an open area.
The IDF also stated in the evening that it shot down a drone that apporached Israeli airspace earlier in the day, without activating alarm sirens.
No additional casualties from these incidents were reported by the IDF, however.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attacks against Israel and announced that four of its members were killed in the retaliatory strikes while they were "fulfilling their duty of Jihad."
Four people were killed in the Lebanese village of Alma al-Sha’ab when the Israeli army responded, according to reports from the Lebanese Red Cross (LRC). There was no indication of whether or not they were members of Hezbollah.
The IDF also issued an order to close all roads in the area of the Ramim Ridge, the area of the Naftali Mountains where Margaliot and Kibbutz Yiftah are located, Israel’s Channel 12 news reported.
In addition, the Upper Galilee Regional Council asked its residents to stay near shelters or protected areas.
