Former Israeli hostage Maya Regev returns home after lengthy hospital rehabilitation
Former Israeli hostage, Maya Regev, was finally discharged from hospital after a long and complex medical recovery. Regev was brutally kidnapped by Hamas terrorists from the Nova Music Festival on Oct. 7.
Hamas terrorists killed 364 Israelis and foreign nationals at the festival. Regev was seriously wounded by Hamas fire and spent over 50 difficult days in captivity in Gaza.
During her captivity, surgeons in Gaza wrongly reattached her wounded foot at an unnatural angle. In November, Regev was released as part of an indirect hostage agreement. However, following her return to Israel, Regev’s serious injuries required prolonged specialized hospital rehabilitation.
Regev urgently underwent a complicated, corrective surgery at Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva. Following the surgery, she needed to wear a brace on her leg for several months. At the time, Dr. Tzach Slutsky, the deputy director of the medical center, expressed optimism about Maya Regev’s medical recovery.
“Maya Regev is recovering. She is after surgery, accompanied by our medical teams and embraced by her family members. We believe that she will recover completely as soon as possible,” Slutsky said in a statement. However, Regev's foot required an additional five months of recovery before she could return home.
After a long rehabilitation, following 50 days in Hamas captivity, Maya Regev has finally been released from the hospital.

According to media reports, Regev’s recovery process after the traumatic hostage experience was not merely physical but mental.
She was released from captivity before her brother Itay, who was also kidnapped by Hamas on Oct. 7 but kept separated from his sister. The sibling's mother, Mirit, said her daughter was only concerned about being reunited with Itay.
"She says that she will not be able to recover mentally until he is home… I went into the surgery with her and a second before she fell asleep, she asked: ‘Mom, will he come back with me?’ I told her straight up, 'Yes' and I hope to keep my promise,” Mirit said.
Four days later, the Regev siblings were reunited. They were among the 105 hostages who were released in exchange for freeing convicted Palestinian terrorists in Israeli jails. Israel accepted the deal under the condition that Hamas would not separate family members. However, the terrorist organization did not honor the agreement and released the Maya and Itai at different times.
Hamas and other terrorists kidnapped more than 250 people on Oct 7. Some 120 hostages are still believed to remain in captivity. It is currently unclear how many of them are still alive, however, media reports indicate that as many as 33 are dead.
On Saturday, Israeli special forces rescued four Israeli hostages in a daring and complex day-time operation in central Gaza called “Operation Arnon,” in honor of the counterterrorism operative Arnon Zamora who was fatally wounded during a fire exchange with Hamas terrorists.
