Explosion at Joseph’s tomb, ramming near Modi’in, 4 terror attacks within 24 hours

In the last 24 hours alone, the Jewish state has seen one Israeli murdered and 11 others injured in four separate terror attacks carried out by Palestinians.

One Israeli man was murdered and five others were injured when a terrorist rammed them with his truck at the Maccabim checkpoint near Modi’in in central Israel on Thursday morning.

The terrorist at first escaped the scene of the attack in his vehicle and drove past several small towns and settlements toward the next checkpoint, allegedly intending to escape to the West Bank.

However, Israel Defense Forces at the Maccabim checkpoint had alerted the security personnel at Hashmonaim checkpoint, some 7 km (4.3 miles) away, who then successfully shot and killed the terrorist.

Paramedics from Magen David Adom ambulance service were on the scene following the attack.

"We arrived at the scene with large forces and saw three young men, one of them unconscious and suffering from stomach and head injuries," explained paramedic Avi Schiff.

"We immediately gave them life-saving medical treatment in the field and evacuated them in intensive care vehicles to the hospital, with one in critical condition, one in serious condition, and the third in good condition."

Shortly before midnight on Wednesday evening, four IDF soldiers were injured by an improvised explosive device (IED) that was set off as they secured the entrance for Jewish pilgrims who were visiting Joseph’s Tomb.

“An IDF officer and 3 soldiers were injured by a detonated explosive device while operating to secure the route for Israeli civilians to Joseph’s Tomb,” the IDF confirmed on Thursday morning.

The officer and two of the soldiers were listed in good condition, while the third soldier was listed in moderate condition, according to the IDF.

The pilgrimage to the tomb continued as usual, the IDF said, despite reports of additional clashes in the area.

The compound, traditionally seen as the gravesite of the biblical patriarch Joseph, son of Jacob, is located inside the city of Nablus in the West Bank, an area under the control of the Palestinian authority.

Buses of ultra-Orthodox Israelis visit Joseph's Tomb under the protection of a large IDF security effort at least once a month, with the pilgrimages frequently sparking violent clashes with local Palestinians.

The local wing of a Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group later claimed responsibility for the attack.

Earlier on Wednesday evening, a 19-year-old Israeli man was moderately wounded by a 14-year-old boy, who stabbed him with a knife at a light-rail station in Jerusalem.

A nearby Border Police officer saw the incident and shot and killed the attacker, who was later identified as a resident of the Beit Hanina neighborhood in northern Jerusalem.

The first attack in this series of events occurred on Wednesday afternoon near the Jewish settlement of Beit Hagai, south of Hebron in the West Bank.

A Palestinian man attempted to ram his car into a group of Israeli soldiers near an army post, where soldiers evaded the vehicle and shot the man, seriously wounding him.
