Reports of explosions and drone activity in Red Sea
Britain's Maritime Trade Operations Agency (UKMTO) announced earlier this morning it had received reports of drone activity and an explosion in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea near Yemen.
The agency reported that "the drone activity originated in Yemen" and urged vessels in the vicinity to exercise caution.
The incident is the latest in a series of aggressions in the waters near Yemen since war broke out between Israel and Hamas on Oct. 7.
The Houthi rebels of Yemen have pledged to attack any Israeli-affiliated vessels passing near its territory.
Last week, a U.S. Navy warship, along with a British naval vessel, responded to a distress call from an Israeli-owned commercial vessel in the Gulf of Aden that had been seized by armed individuals. The ship was successfully freed. The Houthis did not claim credit for that attack.
