IDF suspends two reserve soldiers filmed singing ‘Shema Yisrael’ over mosque loudspeakers
In a recent IDF operation in Jenin, two reserve soldiers were filmed singing the “Shema Yisrael” prayer over the loudspeakers of a mosque that was raided due to its use as a terror base.
On Friday morning, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced that the two soldiers would be suspended from duty over the incident.
The reserve battalion where the two soldiers served was upset at the decision, saying the their actions should not be punished since the mosque was being used for terror purposes.
A leading rabbi from Rishon Letzion supported the IDF’s decision, saying the singing of the “Shema” prayer served no tactical purpose and could “damage Israel’s image in the world.”
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir slammed the decision, and accused Gallant of “bringing politics into the IDF.”
