Explosions near Kabul airport leave several injured, casualties also confirmed
Explosions are being reported at the Kabul airport leaving several injured possibly including some American servicemen and some reportedly killed.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby confirmed the reported blasts.
"We can confirm that the explosion at the Abbey Gate was the result of a complex attack that resulted in a number of US & civilian casualties. We can also confirm at least one other explosion at or near the Baron Hotel, a short distance from Abbey Gate. We will continue to update," he tweeted.
The blasts appear to be from suicide attacks, according to U.S. officials.
The German Air Force has reportedly just left Kabul airport with all its soldiers on board.
The Kabul airport is the only place where foreigners and Afghans can leave the country before America's Aug. 31 military withdrawal deadline.
The attack occurs just as Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett is set to meet with U.S. President Joe Biden in Washington.
