Ashkenazi welcomes Palestinian announcement to renew ties with Israel
Israel's Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi welcomed the Palestinian announcement to renew ties with Israel during a welcoming ceremony for a Bahraini delegation on Wednesday.
“Our door is open to renew negotiation and I urge the Palestinians to come through with no preconditions and to start a dialogue,” he said.
On Tuesday, the Palestinian Authority announced it would resume ties with Israel which include security arrangements and civil affairs. The PA cut off ties with Israel in May in response to suspicions that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was planning to annex portions of the West Bank.
Israel has suspended - as least temporarily - the idea of annexing any land since it signed a normalization deal with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain in September.
In addition to that, the PA is banking on a Joe Biden presidency in the U.S. to set a more pro-Palestinian tone as opposed to U.S. President Donald Trump who was viewed as disproportionately pro-Israel.
Palestinians are hoping to see a reversal of Trump's “unjust policies,” ALL ARAB NEWS reported.
As part of its boycott of Israel, the PA was refusing to accept tax revenues collected for it by Israel since May, a sum of $150 million a month, bringing the government to the brink of financial collapse.
