Argentinian President Javier Milei’s office announced on Friday that it has decided to officially designate Hamas as a terrorist organization.

"The Hamas group has been declared by the Argentinian state as an international terrorist organization," the Presidential office in Buenos Aires stated.

Milei has consequently "ordered a freeze on the financial assets of the Palestinian group."

In addition, Milei’s office emphasized Hamas’ strong links to the Iranian regime, which was found responsible for the terror attacks against the Jewish community center and the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires in the 1990s.

"Furthermore, in recent years, its link with the Islamic Republic of Iran has been revealed - whose leadership was found responsible for the attacks against the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires and against the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association by the Federal Chamber of Criminal Cassation on April 11. These attacks cost the lives of more than 100 Argentinian civilians,” Milei’s office stated.

"President Javier Milei has an unwavering commitment to recognizing terrorists for what they are,” the office added. Argentina said it was allied with Western free societies against terrorism.

"This government has reiterated on multiple occasions its convictions that Argentina must once again align itself with Western civilization, respectful of individual rights and its institutions. For this reason, it must be acknowledged that those who attack such values are declared for what they are: terrorists."

Around 200,000 Jews live in Argentina, constituting the largest Jewish community in South America. Under the leadership of Milei, Argentina has emerged as a strong supporter of the Jewish state and the Jewish people.

In February, Milei visited Israel in an official show of support amid the conflict in Gaza against the Iranian-backed terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah forces in the north.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz greeted the Argentinian president at Israel’s Ben-Gurion International Airport.

“You are a person of values who is committed only to the truth. No wonder that you chose to immediately come to Israel to support us in the just struggle for the defense of the Jewish people against the murderers of Hamas,” Katz stated as he embraced Milei.

“Welcome to Israel Mr. President,” Katz added. During his visit to Israel, Milei vowed he would to move the Argentinian embassy from Tel Aviv to Israel's capital city, Jerusalem.

In April, Argentina officially asked Interpol to arrest Iranian Minister Ahmad Vahidi for his involvement in the 1994 terrorist attack against the Jewish community center in the nation's capital that killed 85 people.

“Argentina seeks the international arrest of those responsible for the AMIA attack of 1994, which killed 85 people, and who remain in their positions with total impunity. One of them is Ahmad Vahidi, sought by Argentine justice as one of those responsible for the attack against AMIA,” the Argentinian Foreign Ministry stated

The Israeli government praised Argentina's move.

“The Iranian interior minister is a murderer and a terrorist,” the Israeli foreign minister wrote on 𝕏.

“Thanks to President Miley @JMilei and Foreign Minister Mondino @DianaMondino. The call to issue an arrest warrant against him for carrying out the attack against the Jewish community – a call that strengthens the Jewish communities and the families of the victims and sends a clear message: the free world is determined to stop the Iranian regime of terror @khamenei_ir,” Katz added.
