3000% increase in antisemitic incidents across 25 American universities since Oct 7 Hamas massacre

A recent report by the organization "StopAntisemitism" revealed disturbing information regarding the increase in antisemitic incidents on American college campuses over the last year. 

In their “2024 Report Card,” StopAntisemitism documented “an unprecedented surge of antisemitism on college campuses, representing a 3000% increase in antisemitic incidents among the 25 higher education institutions that it evaluated across the United States.

The sharp rise comes on top of a 1,500% increase reported the previous year. The surge was so substantial that the organization had to expand its staff to manage the record number of incident submissions.

StopAntisemitism stated that its college “Report Card” is intended to “empower parents and students to make informed choices, ensuring their college experience is defined by growth and enjoyment – not fear, hatred, or hiding their identity.” 

The organization said it sent an administrative survey to the 25 schools, but only two schools responded, compared to seven schools the previous year. Meanwhile, 500 Jewish students completed a student questionnaire regarding their experiences at the institutions of higher education. 

The findings in the report were alarming: 

• 55% of Jewish students have personally been victims of antisemitism at their schools. 

• 43% did not feel safe enough to report the incidents. Of those who did report, a staggering 87% believe their school failed to properly investigate. 

• 43% hide their Jewish identity from their classmates out of fear. 

• 72% feel unwelcome in certain spaces on campus simply for being Jewish. 

• 67% say Jews are completely excluded from their school's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. 

• 69% are blamed for the actions of Israel – actions they have no control over. 

• 67% feel their university did not take sufficient action to protect Jewish students in the wake of the Oct. 7 massacre. 

• And perhaps most heartbreaking: 43% would not recommend their school to fellow Jewish students. 

StopAntisemitism specifically called attention to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) offices, which it said did not properly handle complaints by Jewish students. 

The survey found that discrimination against Jewish students “is frequently minimized compared to other forms of campus discrimination.” 

Liora Rez, executive director of StopAntisemitism noted, “These higher education institutions have utterly failed to protect its Jewish students, allowing harassment, exclusion, and violent antisemitism to thrive unchecked.” 

She said that “despite reports of discrimination, death threats, and open hostility,” administrations of schools with failing grades have "taken little to no meaningful action, abandoning Jewish students in their time of need.” 

She told the parents of Jewish students: “Parents, do not fund this complicity with your tuition dollars,” she stated. “Choose institutions that prioritize the safety and inclusion of all students – Jewish students deserve better.” 

StopAntisemitism concluded its report, saying, “Jewish students should not have to consider their own safety when choosing which school to attend.”
